1991 Ford Bronco XLT Rusted Can?
I just acquired a 91 Bronco and in the engine compartment i found a rusted can resembling a coffee can. There is some sort of plastic fitting on it attached to a small red and a white hose. On the fitting, MAN Is written next to one and AMP is written next to the other, it also has D5TE-AA on it as well. 1) What is it, part of the vacuum system or the Thermactor emissions system. 2) How can i fix it? I considered just running the tubes to a similar sized can and calling it done, however if its for the emissions system i'm not sure if that would be a great idea. Any insight would be wonderfull.
This is indeed a vacuum storage canister. But the denotations Man, and Amp, could mean it is the reservoir for the cruise control servo. If it is on the driver's side, that is what it is for. If it is on the passenger side, it is just vacuum storage for instrument panel vacuum motors. If it holds vacuum, don't worry about the rust. If it won't, replace it. The secondary air injection system, or thermactor, doesn't use a storage canister. It is driven from manifold vacuum, through temperature controlled vacuum switches on the intake manifold. Either upstream, downstream, or vent to atmosphere. The only things that use vacuum storage are cruise and dash.
