My dress won't zip up. Would this help?
OK, I bought this formal dress for a costume that I'm working on and I need some sewing advice. The dress is too small (about 2-3 inches in the waist and bust areas). I don't have a sewing machine (I hand sew anything because I can't afford a sewing machine right now) and I'm looking for an easy way to get this dress to fit me. I was thinking that I could buy some grommet/eyelet tape and sew it on either side of the dress and then lace it up with some satin cord. Would that work? I'm worried it wouldn't be "heavy duty" enough to stay. I already have satin cord because I was going to try to take out the zipper and make a corset using loops (like on wedding dresses) but that's just way too flipping hard sewing by hand.
So would this work? If not, do you have any other suggestions? I need this for Trunk or Treat at my church and that's Sunday night.
You didn't really answer my question. I can't just do that because the zipper is exposed and the back looks different than the front.
You may be able to remove the stiching in the darts and seams to enlarge the size of the dress.
Can you wear body girdle under the dress?
Put the grommets parallel with the zipper (leave the zipper in to save time) and lace up the back.
Wear a shawl to cover the back.
