Building a generator with magnets
If you are afraid of huge electrical bills every month then you should think about a magnet generator. Building a generator with magnets is very easy and anybody can make it work without any problem or technical knowledge.
You will require:
½ volt light bulb
Bulb holder sized to fit bulb
200 feet of 30 gauge magnet wire
Wood strip 2 inches long and 1/4 inches wide
3 dowels, 2 inches long, 1/4 inches in diameter
Square of wood, 1/8-inch thick and 1 1/2 inches on each side
Bar magnet 2 inches long made out of neodymium or ceramic
Thick cardboard strip 4 inches wide and 9 inches long
First of all, the cardboard should be folded into 4 identical sections. Now, using a knife, make a hole in the middle of each section. Glue all the four sections in such a way that you have a box and leave it for some time to dry.
Take the measurements of your bar magnet height and width. Make a rectangle shape of the same height and width of your magnet bar into the wooden square. If you are having any problems cutting it, you can start it by drilling and then cut according to the measurements. Using a hacksaw, make a 1/2-inch deep and 1/8-inch wide cut into one end of the dowel.
To make a handle for the generator, the un-notched end of the notched dowel should be nailed to the last part of the wood strip and after that the small dowel should be nailed to that. One corner of the box should be taped appropriately to the wire end. Wrap the wire around the box as tight as possible. While doing so, make sure that the coil is in place and there is enough wire left from that end.
Attach the handle with the notched end of the dowel with one hole you have in your box. In the wood, the bar magnet should be attached through the hole. Square wood should be glued carefully into the dowel notch. Place in the notched dowel inside the other cut and then square wood should be glued inside the notch.
Using the emery board, you should rub down the enamel insulation off coil ends. Wire ends should be screwed into the bulb holder terminals. Position the bulb inside the holder. Now get the handle on its side by setting the box. To light up the bulb, turn the handle tightly. Now you can use this simple magnetic generator to get quick and free light.

and what type of shops can buy a ceramic magnet or rare earth magnet?
thanks.
electronic shops, think radioshack even has some. Most the time it copper. It has a enamel coating you see it used on electric motor coils.
