Nipping Freshman 15 In The Butt!

Why is it that college students tend to gain weight during their freshman year on campus? There are a number of factors contributing to the so-called "Freshman 15" phrase, they include too much stress, poor eating habits, lack of sleep and little or no exercise. For many young adults, college is the first time they are on their own. Eating on the run, difficulty with time management and sometimes even lack of resources will cause a student to eat more fast food. Many will rely on pizza delivery services as their main fare or any other fast food chain around campus. The primary difference between being at home and away at school is a complete lifestyle change. Common causes for freshman 15:

* Dining halls serving unhealthy fare
* Home-cooked meals become a distant memory
* Too many local pizza and fast food places around campus
* High level of stress from heavy course loads
* College social life often includes late-night eating and drinking, adding extra calories and weight gain.
* Finding the time to exercise is nearly impossible while trying at the same time trying to balance school, work, extra-curricular activities and a social life

Despite these lifestyle changes, you can beat the odds and avoid gain the Freshman 15. Although, college life presents its challenges, it is still possible to maintain or even lose weight during your first year on campus. 8 Tips for a Healthy Campus Lifestyle:

* Practice time management skills and schedule time for fitness
* Don't skip breakfast. A high-fiber, low-fat breakfast with protein will be a powerful to start the day
* Avoid sodas and energy drinks to stay awake
* Pack healthy snacks in your backpack that include protein. This will reduce your cravings for junk food.
* Sign up for non-competitve sports for fun and exercise
* Stay on top of class projects to avoid all-nighters. Make sure you get enough sleep each night.
* Eat naturally whenever possible
* Watch your portion sizes

Hopefully as parents we have instilled proper eating habits and nutritional guidance in our students before they set out for college that will aid them in making healthy choices and prevent weight gain.

Why all the hate?

I would rate this an 8. All of your lines are great except for the last two. Always try to end your verses with the illest lines. Your internal rhymes are good, but you should work on the overall rhyme skeme at the end of your bars. Solid verse, keep writing!
