Has anyone successfully changed the P4 power connector socket on a motherboard? If so where can I get one?
Has anyone successfully changed the P4 power connector socket on a motherboard? If so where can I get one? The one on my son's PC has fried - the fan on the CPU failed a while ago, so it was probably the short that burned the connector. The mobo isn't that old & it's a crime to have to bin it. Can't find anywhere that sells them though - which would mean removing one from an old mobo.
These things are soldered in automatically, probably using surface mount machines. It would be difficult to replicate this process manually. I would not want to try this for fear of damaging my expensive cpu or other pieces.
You might be able to find a connector at Parts Express if you want to take the chance.
