Im removing paneling and have to unscrew the electric socket. How?
I took the plate off the front, when it came off, I realized there is a screw in the top and the bottom of the plug in box. Can I just take those screws out? Will it hang there while I remove the paneling. Will it electrocute me if I dont shut off the power? Help me please I never did this before and dont know how to disconnect that box thats screwed into the paneling for whatever reason. Can you tell me how to get the screws out without killing myself with an electrical shock?
DEFINITELY turn off the breaker for the outlet before working on the outlet. if the terminals on the side of the outlet touch the metal box as you remove it, it will short, trip breaker/blow fuse and potentially electrocute you.
Other than that, just removing the two screws will allow you to pull the outlet out of the electrical box. you should be able to remove the panelling without disconnecting the outlet, if you're careful about it.
Once free, the wires themselves are strong enough to support the outlet while you work on the wall, provided that you don't pull on it too hard.
