Would a 3GHz Core 2 Duo and 0RY007 motherboard be too slow for a GTX 460?

It's for scientific computing. I only have a 300 W PSU but I know I'd have to upgrade if I bought a GTX 460. I just don't want it to be bottle necked.
It would be ok in most games... There are a few titles where only having two cores holds you back, but not many. The E8400 is still a solid CPU for gaming. For example, the E8400 has better gaming performance than the Athlon II X4 635:

But for scientific computing? Applications of that sort usually rely much more upon the CPU than the graphics card. Multi-threaded software runs much better on quad-core processors (even slower-clocked ones) than dual-cores. I'm not sure that a GTX 460 would make nearly as much difference as a Q8400 combined with $50 graphics card like a GeForce GT 220.
@Star Buck: The Q8400 costs around $180 while GTX 460 cards average between $160 -$190 before rebates.... it's a reasonable comparison. I threw in a GT220 card because he'd need some improvement over integrated graphics- the Zotac is only $20 after rebate.
