The adhesive is responsible for maintaining proper cohesive force between the tiles and the tiling surface. A weak force between the tiles leads to frequent breakage and chips. Nowadays, people install the tile themselves, instead of appointing a professional for the project. Excess adhesive between the grout lines should always be cleared in order to avoid further damage. Tile adhesive is extremely aspect for any tile to get perfection for a longer term.

Selecting the correct tile adhesive is just as important as selecting the right and the most tile for the project. The job of the tile adhesive is to bond the bottom of the tile to a surface- termed as the setting bed. With coming times, there has been a great improvement in adhesives which makes it easier for people to lay tile themselves, without contracting the job out to a professional. There are various kinds of adhesives and each has a distinct use.

There are some factors that should be considered before buying the tile adhesive. Your purchase should be based on the applications like wall tiles, floor tiles, kitchen or bathroom tiles. If you are installing Natural stone, then make sure that the adhesive doesn't loosen after water spillage. The adhesive should be strong enough to support the tiles for a long time.

If you are planning to install an indoor wall tile, then you can buy organic mastics. These tiles adhesives are ultimate for vertical installations like wall tiles. However you need to be very careful while installing them on the wall. If you want better strength and flexibility, then you can purchase thin- set mortar. It is a mixture prepared by the tile installer.

The other most common Tile adhesive is thin- set mortar, which is usually mixed by the person installing the tile. They have better bonding strength and offer more flexibility than organic mastics.

Water mortar or dry-set mortar is a form of thin-set mortar, a combination of Portland cement, sand and an element that promotes water retention. It is simply mixed with water and is beneficial because it allows the adhesive to hydrate. It is a favourite amongst the adhesives in the tile industry.

Water-mixed mortar and dry-set mortar is also popular adhesive among the builders. It has water resistant ability that makes it suitable for bathroom installations. It hydrates when it is mixed with water. Latex mortar, acrylic-mixed mortar and epoxy mortar are also used as a tile adhesive. They are expensive but show remarkable results.

Best adhesive - laminated wall map to felt?

I have a 120cm x 90cm laminated wall map which I wish to attach, with adhesive, to a felt-covered wall.
Any advice will be appreciated

Check out the 3M spray adhesives these allow you to evenly coat a large area which will prevent any bleed through in case the map is paper. Just takes a fine misting.

To keep the spray adhesive only where you want it mask of the surrounding wall using painters blue tape and paper. Spray adhesive on wall. Remove blue tape and paper. Then roll map up starting from the bottom so you can apply from the top and roll down while smoothing the surface while you roll your way down.
